DiaryCBT — Privacy Policy
DiaryCBT is a private, offline journaling and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) tool. Your privacy is the core design principle of this app.
The short version
- We do not collect any of your data. Nothing you write ever leaves your device.
- The app has no internet access. It does not declare the INTERNET permission, so it is technically incapable of transmitting your data anywhere.
- No analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no third-party SDKs.
- Your data is encrypted on your device.
What data the app stores (only on your device)
The app stores the content you create — journal entries, CBT thought records, mood ratings and check-ins, and your app settings. This information is saved only in local storage on your device.
- The database is encrypted at rest using SQLCipher (AES-256).
- Sensitive text fields are additionally encrypted using keys held in the Android Keystore.
- An optional PIN lock can be enabled to gate access to the app.
What we do NOT do
- We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information.
- We do not use cookies, analytics, crash reporting, or advertising networks.
- We do not have servers; there is no account and no sign-in.
Permissions
This version of the app requests no runtime permissions. (Future versions that add photo or audio attachments would request camera/microphone access only at the moment you use those features; this policy will be updated accordingly.)
Data retention and deletion
Because all data is stored locally:
- You can delete individual entries and records within the app.
- Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all of its data from your device. There is no cloud copy and no way to recover it — this is intentional.
Children
DiaryCBT is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from anyone (it collects no data at all).
Health disclaimer
DiaryCBT is a self-help journaling tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional. If you are in crisis, contact your local emergency services or a crisis hotline.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at the same URL and the effective date above will be updated.
